I sprained my foot last night in rehearsal. It's a mild sprain, but the foot is making in apparent that it isn't feeling tip top shape.
It happened during rehearsal for 44 Plays for 44 Presidents. I was moving from the Rutherford B. Haryes play into the James Garfield play. I had to put my lemonade tray down (becuase Mrs. Hayes was a tee-totaler) and dash to center stage to play President Garfield. Well, my foot missed the step and twisted my ankle in the rise of the stair and smashed my knee into the floor. Ouch. It really hurt, also I had that frozen moment where I felt my foot twist. So I had a moment on the floor, we stopped the run-thru. I am able to walk, but I didn't do my dancing. (Which is a lot more that you expect. Garfield, Cleveland, Nixon are all dances that I do). Doctor Director Carin helped me with some ice.
And I remembered teh RICE method.
R-Rest
I-Ice
C-Compression
E-Eating (really, it's elevation, but I changed it)
I am going to be OK and the show is going to be good.
At least as entertaining as a women's magazine. I said at least, I didn't say more.

Just another face for radio.
They let me be on the radio again.
They being Theatre Pro Rata. They also meaning the Mike and Madde show on MyTalk 107.1.
Here's proof. The link that will change your life!
Kelsey Cramer and I got to talk about 44 Plays for 44 Presidents! It is having a remount on election night! Woo! We did the show this summer and as part of the Plays for Presidents Festival, Theatre Pro Rata is remounting in on Tuesday. It is going to break a world record of most shows happening at the same time. Or something like that. You can find a production of 44 Plays for 44 Presidents near you at www.playsforpresidents.com.
The play is an awesome retrospective of all 44 presidents. Each president gets a two minute play. (Cleveland gets two plays). There is singing, dancing, emoting, rapping, jump rope, guns, death, family, laughter and historical figures!
There will also be real-time election results during the show, so you can reflect on the past and witness the future of the presidency at the same time!
It is going to be amazing.
I am excited about the show on Tuesday, but I am a little sad too. This is a super fun show to be a part of. And when I think about it, the show has been in my life for over a year. I became obsessed with the play last summer wtih Theatre Pro Rata announced their 2012 season. Then I auditioned for the show in March and did the first run in July, and now the remount. It will be a moment to reflect it's completion.
And then on to the next thing!
Which I will blog about tomorrow.

I wanted to love this place
I don't want to write this post. I don't want to. This is uncharactristic of me. But I am sure there is some quote somewhere that says 'Do what is not you, therefore to become you." If that quote doesn't exist yet, there you go. I just made it.Why am I so reluctant to write this post?
BECAUSE IT IS A BAD REVIEW OF A RESTAURANT.
And yes, I am going to name names.
Primebar in Calhoun Square in Uptown Minneapolis. Don't bother going there, the same food can be had at Quizno's for better quality and cheaper prices.
The services was embarrassing. Twice the service was rude and condescending. And then our server was offended that folks didn't want to take thier leftovers home. Awkwardly, he asked if it was becasue they didn't like them. Which he would have know had he done the customay "how are things going" check in after the food arrived. He also belitted me for ordering the beer that was RECOMMENDED on the menu to accompany the prime rib sandwich I ordered.
I am not old. But holy crap that place is dark.
I know this restaurant is new and it is clear that they are emplying first time servers and hostess. I support that, I appreicieate the fact that they are taking chances on early career service industry folks. (This is a backhanded insult, I don't know if they are new or not, this is an innocent version of me giving them the benefit of the doubt.) I've worked (and some can argue that I still work) in the service industry, and it is hard, demanding, and exahusting to always have that fake smile on your face. However, direct rudeness is not OK.
But a good thing came out of the evening, I know I never need to go back to Primebar. Which is a good thing because I live one block away from Calhoun Square so it makes my myriad of Uptown dining options smaller. Yay! I can give my money to a restaurant that has better food and nicer servers.
So take that Primebar. I am never eating at you again and I hope my legions of blog readers do the same.

Kristin Dunst why are you in my dream when I just want to be in a spooky dance show?
Last night I had a dream where Kristin Dunst and I were sharing a hotel room. She kept getting made at me for using the bathroom when she was eating raw eggs and drying her hair with one of those spinning drying round brush things. She wasn't just made, she was planning to kill me in her mind. So that was there. Now to analyze the dream. Last night, I went to a wonderful spooky dance show Bump in the Night presented by Erin Sheppard as part of the Twin Cities Horror Festival.
This was the second time I saw this show. I saw it for the first time this past Sunday on almost a whim and a good review from a friend. I knew it was going to be a good show before that because it has some talented dancers and choreographers involved, but I am a new to dance audience member, so I always feel slightly fraudulent when I go see dance.
BUT IT WAS SO AWESOME! I WANTED TO DANCE ON STAGE WITH THEM! I loved the show so much I kept thinking about it, which led me to see the show a second time last night.
But back to why this related to my Kristin Dunst dream. In the show were cheerleaders, and Kristen Dunst was in Bring It On, I didn't have elaborate hair styling tools and don't eat rotten eggs so therefore my last night dream was created and stewed up in my head.

Hello NaBloPoMO!
Well, yup. All of a sudden I signed up for NaBloPoMo. Twitter made me do it. I saw everyone tweeting about NaNoWhatever month, I knew I wanted to take part.
But I didn't want to write a novel. Well, I do, but I don't want to write it right now when I am supposed to be working on the play for my MFA.
Then why don't I do NaPlaWriMo? Because this is supposed to be about PROCRASTINATION! And besides, I am working on that anyway and already have half of it written, so I think that would be cheating.
Also, I have left my blog stagnant for a while. Obviously, if the last post I had on here was before I went to Paris. I have blogged since then but that was on the most awesome Merblades.com blog. I really like that blog. I love the Merblades. They aren't gone forever, I am pretty sure they will be back. I already have some things stewing. For those of your unfamilar with the Merblades. Check out the blog, it is a play I wrote and produced this summer to much reaction at the 2013 Minnesota Fringe Festival, which is one of my most favorite things. Maybe you want to produce Merblades in your local theatre?
Whoa. Did that feel self-promotion-y? Probably. I can't help it is happens. Here's some blantant self promotion, the reason I am able to blog at this exact moment because I was supposed to be in Madison watching a short play I wrote being performed with Forward Theater Company's Beyond the Page program but there was a schedule change and that show was on Tuesday. I couldn't attend on Tuesday because of a rehearsal for 44 Plays for 44 Presidents Election Night Remount with Theatre Pro Rata.
Now that is blatant self promotion.

Going to Paris
I leave for Paris in 13 days. I am not ready. I mean I am ready, but I am not packed or whatnot.
I am really hung up on shoes. People say I need great walking shoes. People says they need to look good.
I am the people being referred to in the above sentence.
This is what I imagine everyone in Paris looks like:

How am I suppose to accomplish that? Look at those shoes? Where are her pants? I don't have time to sew random crap on to a pair of black opera gloves!
Someone tell me what shoes to get.
I am cheating on you.
Dear Culture of Doing Things,
I am cheating on you. I still love you. In fact, I am cheating on you because I love you. You are making me cheat on you. It is your fault blog I love so much.
You keep asking where all the Minnesota Fringe Festival posts are. You know I am doing a fringe show because I posted about it on this post. I shouldn't have told you that. It's hard to keep all my web outlets a secret from each other. So you found out. I am sorry Culture of Doing Things that this had to happen this way.
I've been spending a lot of time at www.merblades.com. I know, don't scream at me. You are a blog. Yes, Merblades: Memoirs of a James Cameron got it's own webpage. Don't be jealous, you are still important to me. I just have been giving attention to this new relationship, the one with the metal mermaids. You can't fault me for branching out. Look, Culture of Doing Things, we've been together for a long time, and I do not see that changing. I just don't know if I am the type of girl to settle down with one web domain. You have to understand that, right? You've known about heatherjmeyer.com for a long time now with no problem. Yes, that website has a link to this blog, but so does Merblades. STOP FREAKING OUT, I know Merblades as a whole tab and you have a buried link on the about page.
Culture of Doing Things, you are going to have to get a grip on your needinss. Did you ever stop to think that your neediness is the reason I had to go create www.merblades.com, anyway? That maybe your general interest stories and minimal use of spell check wouldn't be a good fit for my sophomore fringe show? Maybe this is all your fault Culture of Doing Things. Maybe you should be apologizing to me.
Stop hurting me blog, I only do it because I love you.
-Heather
